Modern jazz was my main focus whilst studying at the Royal Academy. There, I was exposed to an incredible diversity of different forms of Jazz and improvised music and on leaving college I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity of  playing with one of Britain's jazz legends, Michael Garrick as well as performing my own compositions with my band Sonic Mutation.
Being outside one's comfort zone can have its benefits creatively and other random 'improvised' situations I have found myself in included performing or rather participating in an interactive Game Piece by John Zorn as well as a work relying on the randomness and spontaneity of the individual musician's decisions by John Cage.
